The Lawn Tells

What this is

The Lawn Tells looks at photographs of a lawn alongside local weather and soil data and returns a ranked list of possible causes with a confidence against each. It is deliberately not a single answer, because the honest output of looking at a photograph of grass is usually several possibilities in order.

Treat it as a well-informed starting point, not a verdict. For anything expensive, irreversible, or affecting more than your own lawn, ask a local extension service or a turf professional who can stand on the grass.

It will sometimes be wrong

How often is published, in full, at how often it is right, including where there is not yet enough evidence to say. If that page shows no number, it is because no number has been earned yet, not because the number is bad.

The service is provided as it is, without warranty. Decisions you make about your lawn, and anything you apply to it, are yours.

Products and chemicals

The Lawn Tells never states an application rate, and it will not name a herbicide class until it knows your grass type, because several common broadleaf products are safe on one grass and fatal to another. Where it suggests a class of treatment, the product label is the instruction that counts. Read it, and check it is cleared for your grass. If the label and this app disagree, the label is right.

Using it fairly

Photograph lawns you are entitled to photograph. Do not upload other people’s property without their say-so, do not upload anything that is not a lawn, and do not script it. Each diagnosis costs real money to produce, so there are daily limits; hitting one is not a fault.

Your photographs stay yours

You keep every right in what you upload. If you tick the box, you allow Ordinate LLC to store your photographs and use them privately to measure and improve the app. They are not published, sold, or shown to anyone else. You can withdraw that by deleting the diagnosis, which removes the photographs with it.

Ending it

There is no account to close. Delete any diagnosis whenever you like and stop using the site; nothing continues. We may change or withdraw the service, and these terms, and the date at the top is how you tell.
